One of the first establishments in the iconic East Bay town of Walnut Creek, The Original Hick’ry Pit has been a landmark since 1958, making it the oldest restaurant in town. An early favorite, the restaurant has gained a reputation for hearty fresh food, friendly and timely service, and a comfortable environment for all to enjoy whether it’s breakfast, lunch , or dinner.

As their slogan goes, tradition continues through the generations of families who come to enjoy this establishment, both for their intimate dining experience and their large group affairs. They are open from 6 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., 7 days a week, and open on all holidays other than Christmas and Thanksgiving.

The Hick’Ry Pit, locally referred to as Emil Villa’s after its founder, is a wonderful yet paradoxical combination of small town dining and an expensive East Bay harbour. It’s success stems from decades of building a loyal consumer base, a steady stream of new customers wanting to see what the drama is all about and, most importantly, it’s amazing to eat.

It’s not the cheapest brunch out there, but there’s nothing in Walnut Creek anymore. Quality service, combined with reliable food, makes this place a local institution and a must-visit for out-of-towners.

The food at Hick’Ry Pit is appetizing and delicious. The smoked meats are savory and delicious. The restaurant provides a dining experience; this nostalgic atmosphere is relaxing. The service is polite, the food is served quickly. The service is moderately attentive during the entire meal. Although the food is fine, the interior of the Hick’Ry Pit lacks ambience. There have been better days in the dining room; the fixtures and furniture are very dated.

What is considered a hidden gem in the heart of Walnut Creek, Hick’Ry Pit has always been one of the favorite restaurants to go to. When you walk into the restaurant, there are pigs everywhere. It’s not about people, it’s about pig figurines devoted to the pig-theme of the meal. The institution prides itself on their homemade version of ribs and mama pies. It’s the only place that some people consider to be an exquisite slab of ribs, worth every penny. This old-time classic restaurant has some of the best restaurants in the industry, including the kitchen and the staff.
