How Long Should You Wait To Shower After Waxing?
When it comes to waxing, everyone seems to have their own set of rules, and everyone seems to defend their point of view as the most valid. Soft wax vs. hard wax, sugaring vs. waxing, and whether or not to exfoliate before your appointment are just a few of the waxing debates. Today, we’ll tackle another frequently asked waxing question: should you get a wax before or after a shower? Aside from high-quality hair removal products, perfect waxing is dependent on a slew of seemingly minor details like these, so it’s critical to have the right information.
How long should you wait to shower after waxing?
To prevent the build-up of dead skin cells, wait for 24-48 hours after the waxing treatment. Ingrown hairs are caused by dead skin cells. Exfoliate every time you shower to help keep your skin soft and allow hair to regrow easily through your skin.
Combining open pores with excessive heat can irritate the skin and make it more infectious. Therefore, return your skin to normal for at least 24-48 hours before taking a hot shower or bath. It should also be avoided that swimming pools, jacuzzis, saunas, and damp rooms have heat which may aggravate redness or inflammation.
Please note that most beauty therapists apply a cooling antibacterial lotion after the wax in the treatment area, which calms and protects your skin immediately whilst removal also of waxing residues. So, if you can’t bathe or shower a day, do that. Wear loose cotton underwear to reduce friction with your newly waxed bikini line.
How to shower after waxing
If you need to or if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can shower after waxing. You should always take the following precautions into account:
- When using shower products like soap or gel, avoid using too much coloring and/or strong fragrances. After waxing, your skin doesn’t require any additional chemicals! Perfumes and body mists, deodorants, and lotions all follow the same rule.
- Under no circumstances should you exfoliate right after waxing. Because the pores are already open, the skin is sensitive and irritable. Exfoliation would exacerbate the sensitivity.
- After your waxing appointment, do not take a shower. Your esthetician will use a post-depilatory lotion to clean the area they waxed, which will remove wax residue, soothe the skin, and keep the area clean for a while. Allow two hours after waxing to shower with lukewarm water to allow your body temperature to stabilize and your skin to lose some oversensitivity.
- Do not bathe in hot water, visit a sauna, use steam, or undergo thermal treatments. Also, stay away from the pool and the beach. You will be at risk of infection if you visit these locations.
- Gently pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it.
