Can I Wear Makeup After Getting A Facial?

From being pampered with a variety of luxurious oils to the sleep-inducing scalp treatment, getting a facial should be a truly relaxing experience. Daily treatments also help to combat the effects of environmental damage, stress, and even our bad skincare habits. Despite this, we still have a residual sense of unease after our service because there is no guidance about what not to do next. So, to stop undoing all of the benefits of your facial, we’ve assembled this handy list of post-facial no-nos.

  • Don’t Use Heavy Cosmetics

Your face will be a little red after extraction, and you might be tempted to reach for the concealer, but resist. Applying makeup right after you’ve thoroughly cleansed your pores will erase all of your hard work. To avoid fresh breakouts, try to clean your brushes and equipment before applying makeup again.

  • Don’t Visit the Steam Room

A trip to the steam room may seem like the ideal way to end a relaxing spa day, but it’s best to avoid it. After your facial, your skin has already been exposed to a lot of steam, so adding more could cause discomfort and broken capillaries. Another no-no is going to the gym: Increased heat and sweat will irritate your newly exfoliated skin, causing inflammation and redness. Pre-facial, take advantage of the spa’s facilities and let your esthetician handle the steam.

  • Wax, Shave, Or Have Laser Hair Removal

Hair removal and facials are incompatible. Although scheduling a wax, shave, or laser treatment at the same time as your facial can be convenient, it’s safer to spread out your appointments. Deep exfoliation with skilled peels is used in most facials to remove old skin cells and add new ones to the surface. If you have a hair removal procedure right after your facial, you risk over-exfoliating and burning your new skin. Experts recommend scheduling hair removal appointments between 24 and 48 hours before or after your facial treatment to prevent pain and injury.

  • Sunbathing

Although we strongly advise you to protect your skin from UV rays on a daily basis (yes, even in the winter! ), this is particularly important after a facial. With the following care, your freshly scrubbed skin is especially sensitive to sun damage, and its delicate surface can easily burn. Furthermore, exposing your skin to the sun increases the risk of melanoma and hastens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. To avoid possible harm, always apply sunscreen or moisturizer with an SPF of 30 or higher after a facial.

  • Pick At Your Skin

Your aesthetician saw it but didn’t remove it because it wasn’t ready to come out, trust us. So keep your hands off your skin after a facial, as it’s particularly sensitive (remember picking equals scarring and more breakouts).

  • Use At-Home Peels Or Retinol
Put down your at-home products for at least three days after your aesthetician has skillfully analyzed your skin and applied the appropriate strength products to your face to achieve your desired goals. We guarantee you’ll see results from your facial.
  • Don’t Get Sweaty
Since increased heat and sweat can irritate newly exfoliated skin, you should wait at least a day before attending your next boot camp class. To get the most out of your self-care routine, schedule your facial on your rest day.
